Photos From The Badlands

Hey, here are some photos from yesterdays trip to the Badlands. Everyone was excited and awe struck at the land forms. Some spots were very dangerous as there were large cliffs and steep drop offs, but everyone made it back on the bus safely! During interviews on the experience most of the guys were speechless and when I asked them to describe what they were seeing they just, "This is sick." I have several more photos from this that I am trying to upload but the internet at SD School of Mines is slow!!! Keep your eyes posted and I'll let you know when the rest go up!

Two more badlands pics

There's been some more chatter on the badlands scenery today. Here are a few more pics.

Badlands, Wall, and on to Rapid City

We left Soiux City and rolled through the Badlands National Park today, soaking in some amazing scenery and history.

From there we visited Wall, home of the rather crazy Wall Drug, home of free cold ice water, 5 cent coffee, and about every other crazy thing you could imagine. We ate lunch at Wall Drug and true out one of there famous doughnuts, damn good actually, and then headed out to Rapid City. We met traveling parents there and local Gary Stanley. Gary used to live in Vermont and lives out here now. Gary and his wife generously donate a scholarship to the Cannons program each year. Janice an Brenda, our food crew, headed out with Gary to restock while we settled in. Tonight we're headed over to the field to use the indoor cages and to see Rapid City play Las Vegas. More pics later!

Breakfast at Wildberry

Wrapped up the Barrington IL tourney yesterday with a team outing to Six Flags. Gio nights sleep and then a Team breakfast at Wildberry before a road day. Excellent way to start. Guessing after a huge breakfast there be some heavy sleeping on the bus. Leaving IL, rolling through Wisconsin, Minnesota, and into South Dakota. Engage

Post game dinner with Barrington Legion

Barrington, IL Legion, and the owner of the restaurant RSVP2, put on a great dinner for us last night after the game. Wings, Fries, Chicago style pizza and drinks on an outdoor patio catching a Cubs game on a large flat screen tv. We ate with the Barrington team, the owners, and got to meet some great folks. We're grateful to them for their hospitality and for welcoming us to the tournament.

Cannons open IL tourney with a W

The Cannons opened the tourney with a win against host Barrington, IL 7-1. Zach Tandy spun a complete game, five-hitter with three walks and five Ks. Cody Sharrow homered for the Cannons.

Off to a good start

We jumped up early against Barrington, putting up five early early. There was some discussion about having a first base coach with long hair... thus far it's proven to be good luck.

Leading off against Barrington, IL

Dylan Leggett led off the game against Barrington. Here's the first two pitches of the AB. Leggett walked and later scored in the frame.

Shoring up the new bat boy

Eben got on his new shwag and some tuning from his mother Janice. Eb is the bat boy for the trip and did a great job in his first game helping with pre-game infield and working bats during the game.

Day 2: Barrington, IL

I'll be doing live updates on my phone from tonights game.  We are here at Barrington High School in Illinois at a nice complex where we will be playing our games.  It is certainly different from Vermont, but the boys are excited.  Matt Roy has been chomping at the bit since we woke up and has been most anxious to get out and play some ball.  40 minutes to gametime and the boys are warming up now as we will face
The home team Barrington Legion.  Hopefully we will have a good game and afterwards we will have pizza with our opponents.  More to come throughout the game as ill continue to update through my phone but ill put it away for now...tough to type on a Droid!

2nd inning update - Cannons score 5 in top of the 1st and Sharrow leads off 2nd with solo shot.  Cannons up 6-1 after 2 innings.

5th inning update - After 4 innings Cannons up 7-1.  Zach Tandy still on the mound pitching strong.

7th inning update - Cannons up 7-1 heading into the 7th

8:04 Central Time - CANNONS WIN!  7-1 Final Score

Plowing into IL

Getting closer to the hotel, plowing into IL. Saw Chicago in the distance... good to avoid inner city traffic!
